Acklen Avenue Renovations

We’re thrilled to share that the construction and renovation project at 901 Acklen Avenue has begun both indoors and outdoors with a projected completion timeline of about 12 months from August 2023!

Our church family continues to grow, and your continued generous giving to the Pursue campaign makes this construction, room for our growing congregation, and the ongoing spread of the gospel possible.

Thanks to your faithful giving, we have been able to purchase a permanent home for our church at 901 Acklen Avenue, Nashville, TN. We purchased the property – which is only 0.8 miles from the current Ave South Campus – from Mt. Gilead Baptist Church to keep a gospel presence alive in Nashville’s urban core, and we are grateful for their partnership.

Below are a few frequently asked questions. We look forward to keeping you updated as the project progresses.

When will we purchase and take ownership of the property?

We purchased and received the deed to the property on Wednesday, April 20. We are grateful to God for His faithfulness and the generosity of our eight campuses, which has allowed us to take ownership of this property debt-free. Our leadership was invited to join Mt. Gilead’s congregation on Sunday, April 24, for their final service in the building. It was a meaningful time of worship and fellowship. There was special emphasis on the significance of the partnership between Mt. Gilead and Avenue South, which included the two pastors (Breonus Mitchell and Aaron Bryant) praying for one another’s congregations and future kingdom efforts.

Are we taking out a loan to finance the purchase of the property?

No. The property has already been purchased, thanks to the generosity of God’s people. Additionally, we will not take out any loans for the renovations to existing property, nor will we take out any loans for any new construction. These projects will be completely paid for out of the gifts given to the PURSUE campaign. This means that, due to the generosity of God’s people, the new property and expanded footprint of the building will be completely debt-free when it is all completed.

What will the property and building look like when the work is completed?

We are currently working with the trustees of our church to determine the best plan for this project. While we know there will be changes to the property and building, we intend for this to be done in an architectural manner that is consistent with the surrounding neighborhood. Once this process is completed, we anticipate a building and grounds that allows us to be a welcoming presence in the community for decades to come.

What is the timeline for moving into the new facility?

We’re excited about relocating to a new location, and we want you to be up to date with the latest information. There are two factors affecting the renovations. First, there have been delays in city approval processes outside our control. Second, we’re encountering inflation in the costs of construction. To keep this renovation under budget and be faithful with the resources you’ve entrusted to us, we’re cutting costs while still ensuring the building suits our campus’s growing needs. We’re still on track to begin construction in the first quarter of this year, and we’re excited to see how God will use this new location for the gospel. We appreciate all of your patience as we move forward and are grateful for your continued support.

What can I do to help?

Please join us in praying that we would be effective in establishing even greater relationships in our community and around the new property. We invite you to prayer walk around the building and surrounding streets whenever you are able. This may also provide you with a birds-eye view of what’s happening in the urban core of Nashville, as well as inform your prayers for our campus in the months ahead. We invite you to join us in the new construction by making a financial commitment to the PURSUE capital campaign.
